Lost in translation?

App is great for what I need it for, it gives examples of its usage as well. The only problem I have with it currently is that if you use the speak function multiple times in a row, it tends to not work anymore. Which is unfortunate because I like to hear it read to me. I’m sure it’s a pretty simple bug in the software, and if it gets fixed I’ll bring it to five stars!

I’ve used this app for about 9 years now from when I first started learning Japanese. The fact that it is free and still running is impressive in itself. I frequently use it throughout my everyday and I have hundreds to thousands of points saved. I love the format and UI of their “lists” feature and study feature. I DO genuinely get scared every once in a while of somehow losing my data on this app and my 8-9 years of history of what I have learned.

This was recommended to me, and I recommend it to you. It’s a dictionary. It doesn’t try to be anything else. This will seriously be the best one you’ll find. The built in flashcards are great too, and the ability to save words to custom decks is great. It’s never let me down, and I can’t recommend more.

Extremely useful. I have lists with thousands of words. This is how I drill kanji, I write some of my notes in here, I have created lists dedicated to certain subjects and conversations. It’s been a while since they’ve updated this app, but I use it all the same. Definitely useful if someone is wanting to study Japanese, and it’s a free alternative to anki that’s just as good. Also, no ads, no payments, nothing but learning and knowledge. I wish the devs would update the app a bit to include some words and phrases like 盗み入り、メシウマ、行目、係決め、班別、which I’ve heard but seem to be more obscure. However, it’s a great app

simply the best Japanese dictionary out there, the best part is that it works even without internet connection! Highly recommend.

Voice reading is bugged. It says the first entry, then is silent for all others until you reset the app. And does it again for only the first search entry.

In 2025, 17 years after this app debuted it is still working and it is free. That’s incredible in and of itself. The language learning features are also very strong and easy to use. There are some bugs: personally I can’t get the “speak” feature to do anything with any audio setup, but again: free. Thank you to the people who put work into this!

Excellent app. I've been using it for years and it's much better than others for me. One request to the developer would be to have the option to have the results stay visible after closing the keyboard after searching. It was like this until the most recent update. Thank you!

I have a bug on the text part, whenever I try to paste any length of japanese text by using the paste button, the app consistently crashes, I'm not sure if this is just for my device or just this version of the app, but it's such a shame, I'm not able to use one whole feature. Otherwise, the app is great!

Thanks for the bugfix update, it no longer seems to crash :) Still think it would be great if the search results did not disappear when you hide the keyboard, and tapping the search-button on the keyboard means the keyboard closes and any results are not displayed.

No ads characters with romaji very good for beginners

in android, when you just close the app and want to reopen it, the app always crashed

Bugs I have noticed in this version: 1st. The search results on the search tab doesn't show up if the app isn't being covered by the keyboard. That's an issue because when the app is being viewed in landscape mode the keyboard of some devices covers the entire screen and if someone tries to close the keyboard to see the results, the results disappear. Also if the app is in window mode the app won't show any results if the window isn't being partially covered by the keyboard. | 2nd. The text tab
